Part 7 of the Hard difficulty Space Marine Let's Play is uploading to YouTube. Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/user/EmeraldSuzaku
If you think the game is awesome, it can be purchased via Steam or Amazon for a reasonable price.
Likely one of the first things viewers will notice is the very obvious gap between part 6 and part 7. That's because I didn't record a chunk of it. A friend came over wand wanted to see the game, so I played for, oh, an hour or so without doing any sort of recording. The result is the hole. Sorry about that :-(
This video marks my first upload since YouTube lifted its 15 minute time limit. As such, it's as much an exercise in uploading a massive video as it is in continuing the Let's Play. I actually hadn't intended to do much with the Space Marine LP since I skipped recording that segment, but I happened to come back to it while looking for something to make a long video from. And really, if I'm going to upload it anyway I may as well actually continue the Let's Play. So, mea culpa on the gap, but there shouldn't be another one moving forward.
I once again didn't edit out the deaths, so you get to see me chopped, diced, smashed, and exploded many times. I don't *think* it bogs things down too much here, as I didn't generally die too many times in a row, but let me know if that is not the case. There is one fight that I ended up having to redo a few times which might be pushing the envelope, but I hope that nothing else is terribly frustrating to watch. After all, one of the purposes here is to chronicle my journey through these games, and it just wouldn't be accurate if it didn't expose some suckitude on my part. Especially in genres I'm not all that great at (read: most of them).
This video is probably longer than I would normally make them, and covers multiple chapters. I really should try to break up the videos along chapter lines, but the transitions between chapters are pretty seamless in Space Marine, so complicates matters a bit. If I ever revisit this game--say for more of a guided tour-style of video--I may see about doing that then. Right now I'm looking to scale the videos down to an hour or so apiece, unless other breakpoints end up making more sense.
And I still think I'm nuts for running this on Hard for a first-time through....

Is this thing on?
Hey, look, it's a blog!
Now that the obvious is out of the way, I suppose some explanation is in order. This blog is intended to work in conjunction with my YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/EmeraldSuzaku) to provide all sorts of Let's Play-style goodness.
While the main video content will be uploaded to YouTube, this blog will serve as an outlet for additional news, discussion, announcements, and other things related to the YT channel. Essentially, anything that doesn't make it onto the channel will pop up here, as will announcements of new content for the channel.
For the moment, the YouTube channel has a limited amount of content, and it's been a while since the last update. I'm working on a pseudo-relaunch, and the first steps have been taken--the channel has been renamed, and the general plan has been laid out, and this blog is now online. I'm also in the middle of encoding a roughly hour-and-a-half-long video for the Space Marine Let's Play. I plan to finish that LP out to give myself time to get everything straightened out for the new format.
The goal is pretty simple. I aim to provide regular updates in a more structured format, taking full advantage of YouTube having removed the length limit on my videos. I'd like to update a couple days a week, with a total of 2-4 hours of new content. Exactly how practical that goal is has yet to be determined, but we'll see.
While I'm finishing Space Marine, I will also be ramping up to the first actual Travelogue--the game has been chosen, and will be announced closer to the first upload. I estimate that Space Marine is roughly halfway complete, which would imply that I still have another 4-6 hours to go. The more I suck, the longer it will take, so let's hope I find some skill somewhere in there :P
Ultimately, the Space Marine LP is a learning experience. It's been getting me used to VirtualDub and AVIsynth, for example, as well as tweaking my audio setup for audio capture. As such, updates will likely still be irregular as I continue to tweak my process and experiment with other things. The goal is to have everything basically set before I start in earnest. It turns out that the editing process takes just as long--if not longer!--than the playtime that generated the video. And that's not even counting the encoding and uploading that I let run when I'm asleep or not home. If something doesn't work out, or settings need adjusting, or something else rears its head that I don't notice until after I upload, it's rather time-intensive to fix. So, please bear with me while I streamline things.
But anyway, enough about that. That should give the whole two of you that stumble across this place an idea as to what's in the pipe, and the direction things are intended to go in the future. I'll type up another post specifically addressing the new Space Marine upload in a bit.
